Terms of Use

These terms apply when you use the Alberta Parenting for the Future Association (“apfa”, “we”, “us”) website, create an account, register for a program or event, or submit a form. By doing any of those things, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site.

How we handle the information you give us is described separately in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

Who May Use This Site

To create an account or register for a program, you must be at least the age of majority in your province of residence, or be registering with the involvement of a parent or guardian. If you register a child, you confirm that you are that child's parent or guardian, or that you are otherwise authorized to register them and to give the consents the form asks for.

Your Account

An account is optional — you can register for most programs as a guest. If you do create one:

• Give us accurate information, and keep it up to date. We rely on it to reach you about the programs you sign up for.
• Keep your password confidential. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account. Tell us right away at info@apfa.ca if you think someone else has access to it.
• Use one account per person. Accounts are for individuals and families, not for sharing.
• You may ask us to close your account at any time.

We may suspend or close an account that is being used to abuse the site, to interfere with our programs, or in breach of these terms. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you why.

Registering for Programs and Events

• A registration is a request for a spot. Spots are limited, and each child you register takes their own spot. If an event is full and a waitlist is offered, your registration joins the waitlist and we will contact you if a place opens up.
• One registration per person, per event. If you are signed in, the site will not let you register twice for the same event. Register the whole family in a single submission.
• Childcare, where offered, is also capacity-limited and is requested as part of the registration.
• Drop-in programs are marked as such and may not require registration at all.
• Accurate details matter. Program suitability often depends on a child's age, so please make sure what you give us is correct.

Cancellations and Changes

If you have an account, you can cancel your own registration from your account page up until 24 hours before the event starts. Inside that window, please contact us at info@apfa.ca and we will cancel it for you. Please do cancel if your plans change — our programs are free and spots are limited, so an unused spot is one another family could have had.

We may change, reschedule, or cancel a program — for example because of weather, illness, facility availability, or low enrolment. We will make reasonable efforts to notify registrants using the contact details on the registration. Repeated no-shows may affect your ability to register for future programs.

Waivers, Consents, and Electronic Signatures

Some programs require you to accept a waiver, release, or consent before taking part. Where a form asks you to type your name as a signature, or to tick a box confirming that you have read and accepted a statement, you agree that doing so has the same legal effect as a handwritten signature, and that it records your acceptance of what that statement says.

Please read those statements before you submit them. A waiver or release you accept through this site is a separate agreement between you and apfa, and it continues to apply on its own terms whatever else these terms say.

Referrals

Our referral form is used by individuals and by partner agencies to connect a family with services. If you submit a referral for someone else, you confirm that the person is aware of it and has consented to their information being shared with the agency named on the form. Submitting a referral does not by itself guarantee a service or a program spot.

Third Party Registration and Payment

Some events are registered and paid for through Zeffy, an external platform. When you follow a “Register on Zeffy” link, you leave this website and the transaction is governed by Zeffy's own terms and privacy policy. We do not process or store payment card information. Any refund for a paid event is handled under the terms published for that event.

Acceptable Use

When using this site, please do not:

• Submit false, misleading, or someone else's information, or register on someone's behalf without their authority.
• Submit content that is unlawful, abusive, harassing, defamatory, or that infringes another person's rights.
• Attempt to access accounts, registrations, submissions, or administrative areas that are not yours.
• Probe, scan, overload, or otherwise interfere with the site or the systems behind it, or use automated tools to scrape it or to submit forms.
• Use the site or anything obtained from it for commercial solicitation.

Our Content

The content on this site — text, graphics, logos, photographs, program materials, and the site itself — belongs to apfa or to its licensors and is protected by copyright and trade-mark law. You may view, download, and print material from this site for your own personal, non-commercial use, and community partners may share our program listings to help families find them. Any other reproduction, modification, or redistribution requires our written permission. The apfa name and logo may not be used without our permission.

Information on This Site Is Not Professional Advice

Our programs and the material on this website offer general parenting, family, and community information. They are not medical, psychological, legal, or other professional advice, and they are not a substitute for care from a qualified professional. If you have a concern about a child's health, safety, or development, please consult an appropriate professional. In an emergency, call 911.

Availability and Accuracy

We work to keep event details, dates, and program information current, but we do not warrant that everything on the site is accurate, complete, or up to date, or that the site will always be available or error-free. The site and its content are provided “as is”. Links to other organizations are offered for convenience; we are not responsible for their content, services, or practices.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, apfa and its directors, officers, employees, and volunteers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of this website, from any inability to access it, or from any error or omission in its content. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. This section is about your use of the website; participation in our in-person programs is governed by the waivers and consents for those programs.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms as our programs and this website change. The date at the top of the page shows when they were last revised, and the current version always governs. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the laws of Canada that apply there, and you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Alberta.
